There are two types of Fat found in the foods that we eat.
Saturated Fat
This is fat that is found in a variety of sweet and savoury foods, such as chocolate, butter, cheese and fatty cuts of meat.
Too much saturated fat in your diet increases your risk of high Cholesterol, which makes you more likely to have heart problems or a stroke.
Unsaturated Fat
This is fat that is mostly found in oils from plants and fish, such as avocados, some nuts, salmon and olive oil.
Having a balanced amount of unsaturated fat in your diet can help maintain your body’s cells and brain health.
How can you reduce Saturated fat in your diet?
Opt to grill, bake, steam, boil or poach your food rather than frying.
Choose lean cuts of meat and cut any excess fat off.
Swap butter, lard, coconut and palm oils for small amounts of olive, rapeseed or sunflower oils and spreads.
Use semi-skimmed, 1% or skimmed milk rather than whole or condensed milk.
