With Know Your Numbers! Week nearing an end, we thought we'd share some top tips on how you can reduce / manage high blood pressure:

Regular physical activity

Try to do some moderate-intensity activity every day, building this up to at least 150 minutes every week, in bouts of 10 minutes of more.

Eat a healthy balanced diet

Try to maintain a healthy, balanced diet. You can use the Eatwell guide to find out what to eat from different food groups, including aiming to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables every day.

Maintain a healthy weight

Being overweight, especially around you mid-section, can cause high blood pressure. For some people, losing weight is all they need to do to get their blood pressure down to a normal level.

Cut down on salt

Try to avoid salt where possible. For example, do not cook with salt or add any salt to your food at the table.

Processed foods tend to be high in salt, so it's important to cut down on these - this includes pastries, pizzas, biscuits and processed meats such as sausages and bacon.

Drink in moderation

If you do drink alcohol, it's important to stick within the recommended guidelines of no more than 14 units per week, and aim to have several alcohol-free days each week.
