Are you taking part in Dry January?

Person stretching

Dry January is the national campaign where thousands of people go sober of the month of January.

Why do people take part?

Going sober for a month gives you a chance to reset your body, improve your mental clarity and can help establish healthier habits. If you are taking part, you are already half way through, and are likely to be experiencing bsome of the benefits. Keep it up!

Are you struggling to keep it up?

Here's some top tips to keep you going throughout the rest of the month:

  • Pay attention to how you are feeling. Are you sleeping better? Do you have more energy? When you notice benefits make a note of them - it can help you to keep your momentum going.

  • Try some alcohol-free beverages. There's a range of alcohol-free beverages you can try, whether that's a mocktail or an alcohol-free beer!

  • Try to replace the times you would have a drink with an activity. For example, if you usually have a drink on a Friday night after a busy week at work, go for a walk or perhaps meet up with some friends - do something enjoyable!

  • Make some home-made mocktails! If you're struggling for inspo, check out our Health Trainer TV page for some mocktail recipes, or check out Mocktail Recipes | Good Food.

If you do decide to return to drinking after January is over, remember to stay within the limits. Although there is no healthy recommended alcohol intake, guidelines suggest you should drink no more than 14 units of alcohol a week, spread across 3 days or more.
