If you drink alcohol, is your drinking putting your health at risk?
If you cut down in January, we are encouraging you to keep going in February. This will help you feel better, lose weight and reduce your long term risks.
Most of us know that smoking causes cancer. But just like tobacco, alcohol is toxic. Alcohol is a Group One carcinogen (something that causes cancer). Alcohol causes at least 7 different types of cancer such as:
Bowel
Breast
Mouth
Throat
Just 1 drink a day can raise your risk of cancer. Any type of alcohol is carcinogenic - beer, wine and spirits.
How can you reduce your risk?
Drink no more than 14 units a week. (14 units is about 6 glasses of wine, 6 pints of lager or 6 double spirits)
Have at least 3 drink-free days every week.
Why should you cut down?
